I Came. I Saw. I Filmed
My time here in Rome is coming to an end. I ended up staying a week longer than planned and will leave monday night. But then again, there was no real plan for afterwards. With nothing left to do, I have booked my ticket for Paris.
I saw a lot. I saw a lot that most will never see. I have seen a Rome most Americans will never know. I'm not talking about the sites either. I have seen the changing face of Rome (and Europe). The crumbling economy, the homeless, the prostitutes, the lost, the hopeless. There is so much more i wish i could do than just film. With a need so big and a story so massive i feel so insignificant. What impact can unimportant me have with my little camera? Its one of those moments where i feel so completely worthless in what i am doing when so many people are directly touching the lives of those who are without hope.
That being said, Rome is a beautiful city. Full of history and culture (along with everything above and more). I once again have no trouble blending with a crowd, either tourist or italian (until
someone tries to speak to me that is). One of my greatest joys is exploring a city and just letting myself get lost. Just me, a map, and my trusty 60d.
However, I am truly beginning that the beauty of Rome is only skin deep. There is so much brokeness here among the people. With a corrupt government, unemployment for 20s-30s around 40%, human trafficking (controlled by the italian, russian, and chinese mafias), a major world religion that seems to have forgotten her city's people, etc. And people think we have it rough with our government.
I can never look at Rome the same, and I thank God for that. I say there is nothing left to do, but truth be told there is a lot that needs to be done here. There is just little that i can do to make a difference, and that is all i really want to do in life: to make a difference.
I am worn out. Not just from all the walking and filming, but from what I have seen. I have met some truly wonderful people who are serving Christ. It is an absolute honor to have been welcomed in my such people of God. I am needing to rest and process everything before I can begin to form the story. It will be good to be around family in Paris.
When i get back to Brussels, I'll post more pictures from both Rome and Ballaria. Maybe a few from Paris if I take any. I'll get a Vlog done eventually.
